Northern Liberties Passive House

Northern Liberties Passive House is new construction on an infill lot adjacent to Orkney Park in Philadelphia. The project has achieved Pre-Certification for PHIUS+ 2018 and will ultimately be net zero resulting from recent scope additions.

With the latest in solar tech, this home is equipped with an energy system that is smart enough to draw panel energy first, battery energy second, and as a last resort from the grid. The great reductions in energy requirements for this home allowed for a smaller system size than normal. It also tracks usage trends and gives the user remote circuit control from a smart phone.

Employing high performance assemblies resulted in a drastic reduction in heating and cooling max load requirements with an energy-smart ventilation system.

The way our envelope comes together creates an airtight, super insulated, and weather resilient home designed specific to Philadelphia’s climate.

This project’s impact is more than the sum of its parts, and is one of only a few examples of a Passive House town homes in Philadelphia.
